We rent mobility scooters. For a manual wheelchair or an accessible van, we will point you at the people who do.
Mobility scooters — yes, we rent them
A visit, a few weeks after surgery, a conference or a theme park, or while your own machine is in for repair. Telephone us with how long you need it and roughly what you weigh — that is what decides which machine goes out.
Scooter rentals are private pay. Insurance does not generally cover a short-term scooter — and if a letter has told you your chair is a “rental”, that is a different thing entirely. See below.
Manual wheelchairs
We do not rent manual chairs. For those we send people to North Florida Medical Sales & Rentals, who have a branch here in Gainesville and rent short and long term.

“My insurance says my chair is a rental”
When Medicare or an insurer supplies a power wheelchair, it is usually billed as a capped rental: the plan pays monthly for thirteen months, and at the end of the thirteenth month the chair converts to yours. You keep it. Nobody collects it.
So if a letter calls your chair a rental, you are not looking for a rental company — you are part-way through a purchase. Nothing needs doing. If a chair supplied that way needs work, that is ordinary repair and service, and we can help whether or not we supplied it.
This describes how the benefit is normally billed and is not advice about your particular plan. Your supplier or plan can tell you where you are in the thirteen months.
