Repairs & service

When it stops working

A chair that will not move is not an inconvenience, it is your day. Call 352-373-9673 and press 4 at any time if you have a wheelchair repair request.

Press 4 for a wheelchair repair request

What we fix

  • Complex power wheelchair fittings, repairs and adjustments
  • Custom molds and seating systems
  • Specialty drive controls — mini-proportional joysticks, fiber optic controls, infrared sensors and proximity switches
  • Manual wheelchairs — rigid, folding and tilt-in-space
  • Mobility scooters
  • Vehicle lifts of all types — inside lifts, hitch-mounted outside lifts and rear-entry lifts
  • Hand controls and other vehicle modifications
  • Wheelchair ramp van conversions
  • Equipment delivery and setup

We sell, install and repair all types of lifts, and we work on all types of chairs and scooters.

Getting a repair started

Call 352-373-9673 and press 4 at any time if you have a wheelchair repair request. Tell us the make, roughly how old it is, and what it is doing.

If you would like to private pay for the repair, say so on that call and we will go over what it involves. You do not have to bring insurance into it.

If it is a funded repair, we start the paperwork at the same time. That path is described further down this page.

Somebody here has the part in their hand

A wheel lock that will not hold, a caster that shimmies, a joystick that drifts. Small failures, and every one of them can stop your day. Every piece of equipment we vend is customized, adjusted and fitted to meet each individual’s needs, and we repair what we sell.

Our staff regularly attends manufacturer training seminars, and our store front has been open to the public since 1989.

We work on all types

Brands we service

  • Pride / Quantum
  • Permobil
  • Sunrise Quickie
  • Golden Tech
  • Invacare
  • Shoprider
  • And more — ask about yours

We are an authorized provider for every major manufacturer of power chairs, and we have carried Pride Mobility products for years as our standard go-to offering. If your chair is not on that list, call anyway. Telling you over the phone that we are not the right shop costs you less than driving here to find out.

If it needs replacing instead

We keep a large selection of personal mobility equipment for clients to view and test. If we do not stock the item, we can normally obtain the appropriate power chair, mobility scooter or manual wheelchair within a week.

Every piece of equipment we vend is customized, adjusted and fitted to the individual — so “within a week” is when it arrives here, not when it is finished and in your hands.

Two ways to pay

Private pay, or funded

Private pay · or prescription, coverage verified, repair

Private pay

If you would like to private pay for repairs, please call the office at 352-373-9673 for more information.

Going this way skips the prior approval described below. For a small repair that is often the shorter road, and we will tell you when we think it is.

Funded through insurance

Get your practitioner to send us a prescription for repairs. As long as we have your contact information, we will get in contact as soon as we have verified your insurance coverage.

So there are two things we need before the call back: the prescription from your practitioner, and your contact information.

What the wait is actually for

Most people think that once they have seen their practitioner and an order is written, the equipment is ordered immediately. This is not the case. Paperwork has to be completed and gathered from multiple sources, then submitted for prior approval from your insurance provider.

VA-funded equipment

If the VA bought it

Repairs on VA equipment run through Prosthetics. Once they are notified of an issue they send a 1090 to a vendor, which is what allows the vendor to quote the repairs needed. The VA then weighs the cost of the repair against the cost of a new unit.

Other companies require you to get hold of Prosthetics before any kind of service. Sometimes you just cannot wait. If you have lost your keys or need a minor adjustment, we would be happy to help you get back to being mobile.

The full process, the Prosthetics Hotline number and what we provide through the VA are on our community resources page.

For referring clinicians

Sending us a patient

Send the prescription and the patient’s contact information. We verify coverage, then contact the patient directly — you are not the one chasing the plan.

For new equipment, remember that all items going through insurance must be on Medicare’s PDAC to be eligible. And scooters and power wheelchairs are not the same equipment — it is worth knowing the difference before ordering. Call us and we will go through it with you.

Ask about our provider newsletter, Rolling News, when you call.

Provider portal

To access the Provider Portal, use the credentials you received from our staff — or call in and we will get one made for you.

If you are not sure whether your office already has a login, ask when you call and we will check. Let us take the paper out of paperwork.

Before you load it in the car

Some of what goes wrong you can put right yourself, and we would rather you did than spend a morning driving here. We keep adding how-to videos to our YouTube channel for exactly that.

Call 352-373-9673 and press 4 first either way. Describe the fault and we will tell you whether it is a five-minute fix at your kitchen table, a repair worth doing, or equipment that has reached the end of its life.
